Just fell across this poor fellow’s bizarre experience with his PC. After a number of odd events things culminated in this:

“Then, yesterday, the king daddy of them all happened… It seems that Internet Explorer’s back button was causing my CD tray to pop open. Let me repeat: the BACK BUTTON on INTERNET EXPLORER was causing my CD TRAY to open!!”

This caused a lot of laughter from his colleagues. Read his blog here.

The PC is working fine. In fact it is going so well that browsing the Internet is a real pleasure again. Trying out new applications is a breeze. The combination of enjoyable browsing and ease of trying out applications is, it seems, a poisonous mixture with a very sweet taste.

My PC, secretly smurking at my lack of willpower, is allowing me to waste vast amounts of time. Whole days pass with no work being completed. Just a growing pile of tried and ‘tested’ software solutions to problems I probably never had nor will have.

Crafty trick PC, but I’ve rumbled you. Now back to work…!

Surgery Time

This morning I had a gift for my PC.

You see, we’ve been talking though the gap between us recently and we’ve decided to give things another go. Maybe we were a little hasty and just being too inward looking; so I decided to buy a special gift. And what better than the gift of memory?

I went online and cast around for a nice source of memory, I was looking for a 512Mb module, when I stopped myself and thought ”No, be a bit more generous & go a stage further, let’s go for the full 1Gb option”. So I did.

This morning the memory arrived and I opened up the PC and put it in. Easy as that! I’m glad I did it. We shared a moment of intimacy that’s been missing between us recently. My PC cooperated all the way through and now we are whizzing through the work together.

I don’t think I can say that my PC hates me today!

Glad I’m Not An Apple Customer

Just been reading about the way Apple are punishing naughty users of their iPhone for daring to make it work with other service providers than the one Apple dictate shall be used.

A quote from an Apple source said something like “… if a user has hacked their iPhone and now it doesn’t work, they should buy another iPhone.” Gracious me that’s pretty crass!

This could be one of those classic corporate clangers that amuse one now and again.

Makes me want to nip down to the shops, and take my iPhone back again. Trouble with that is I’d have to buy one first and I don’t want to be locked into just one phone provider thanks very much.

No Google Thing Box - Sorry

I had hoped to pop the Google Talk box thing on the side bar but because it uses JavaScript WordPress won’t allow it.

Nevermind just go to http://www.google.com/talk/ and you’ll soon be set up.

My PC Monitors My Calls

I was talking to a friend on Skype. We’d been chatting for about 20 minutes when my PC decided that enough was enough and promptly ended my side of the call (I could hear my friend talking clearly but they couldn’t hear me).

So, just in case the problem wasn’t caused by my PC, I started looking around and I’m trying out a couple of Skype alternatives:

www.gizmoproject.com and Google Talk. I like the Google thing so I’m going to add a box about it on the side of the blog.

All Quiet - Now This

Tuesday morning. The first day of a BIG project. Sit down at the PC and start up Microsoft Word. It crashes. It worked PERFECTLY yesterday, and for months before that. But now its crashed.

My PC wants to know if I’d like to know why Word crashed. Well, yes, I would. BIG BIG MISTAKE.

The subsequent trail, leading to updates, installs, de-installs, reinstalls, this that the other etc blah blah and on and on until 2PM, used the best part of my day. Arrgh!

And had I done anything to annoy my PC in that time? Not as far as I can tell.

The creepy voice in the last post is mine. Sorry about that!

Well PC User is no longer silent. Only taken about 2 hours to work out how to upload audio to the blog. PC was, strangely, cooperative throughout.

Is this a turning point?
